Bruce Scott

CEO/Principal

Mr. Scott is an Entrepreneur, Intellectual Property and Corporate Development specialist. He has initiated and led over 45 deals involving business start-ups and operations, patent assignment and licensing and corporate financing. Mr. Scott has launched and operated many new businesses during his career. He has completed multiple IP assignment and licensing transactions within the US and Asia. He is also a regular visitor to China where he sources products with various manufacturing centers. Fields of experience include software and internet, life science and medical, alternative and green energy, consumer products such as electronics, medical supplies and lawn and garden. Bruce has been a founder/principal for 5 of his own companies including; Intellectual Licensing & Capital Group, FlexBio Systems, Care Tech Systems, NovoDynamics and Telene Products Division. He has been general manager, CFO, CEO and SVP of Operations multiple times. Companies he has been associated with include: Nuada Pharmaceuticals, Geron Corporation, NovoDynamics, Goodrich Co., Catalytica Advanced Technologies and Energy Systems and AIM. We have offices in Silicon Valley and Shanghai.

Rock Clapper, PH.D.

Dr. Clapper is an investor and entrepreneur specializing in social networking. He is also the founder and/or CEO of multiple web- based companies including School Time Software (sold to School Time Concepts 1998), and GotSavings.com (prepared for IPO in 2000). Experienced with web-based consumer and business environments, persuasive communication, M&A transactions, Dr. Clapper currently serves as Director at Producepoint.com, divinR.com, nTangle.com, and Raendance.com. He is a professor at Brown University Medical School and has earned a PhD in Applied Social Psychology from Brown. He is a member of the Band of Angels and the Association of Corporate Growth (Silicon Valley).

David Deacon, PH.D

President, Dagamite Corp.

Dr. Deacon has almost 30 years of business development and technology experience in a range of spaces, especially physics-based technologies. Dr. Deacon excels in helping entrepreneurs grow their companies, raise funds and exit profitably. He has a proven track record of refining business plans, driving due diligence processes, connecting companies with potential buyers (especially in Silicon Valley) and closing investment rounds. Dr. Deacon started his career by developing an e-beam accelerator- based laser and free electron laser technologies. He then started his own business, building a portfolio of patents and a business that grew an annual revenue averaging 46% for 12 consecutive, profitable years. He later sold this business to Gemfire Corp., where he became CEO, CTO and a Member of the Board. Later still, became CEO, CTO, and Chairman for Sparkolor Corp., before launching Dagamite. Dr. Deacon is also a member of the Band of Angels in Silicon Valley, and a member of Silicon Ventures. Dr. Deacon earned a BS in Physics and Electrical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Physics at Stanford University.

Edward Beardsworth

Consultant

Dr. Beardsworth is a marketing strategy and business development expert with over twenty-five years experience in the electric utility and energy industry. His interdisciplinary strengths combine both technical and business planning perspectives. Dr. Beardsworth works with utilities both individually and in a collaborative manner to help them with technology strategies and business development and structures. He is a strategic advisor to Nth Power, the leading venture capital fund that specializes in energy utility-related technology. Prior to entering private consulting in 1992, he served at the Electric Power Research Institute as a Project Manager, then in a corporate marketing and R&D technology transfer role. Dr. Beardsworth also worked at the Brookhaven National Lab prior to joining EPRI. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Rutgers University.

Michael Heckly

Director of Business Development, ILG

Mr. Heckly has over 12 years experience as a Sales, Entrepreneur and Business Development Specialist. He has successfully begun and managed 5 companies, including multiple product launches with complex sales and production cycles. Mr. Heckly is an expert in internet marketing and business development. In his current company, Intellectual Licensing & Capital Group (ILG), he has taken on the role of Director of Business Development, and provides leadership on the sales and marketing teams. In addition to his background in business, Mr. Heckly holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Washington State University and a Master’s Certificate in Internet Marketing from the University of San Francisco.

Linda X. Zhao, Ph.D./MBA

President & CEO of Draco Healthcare Consulting, LLC

Dr. Zhao has more than 20 years experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries in China, Japan and the United Stated. Most recently, she was a leading consultant for the Japan oncology market at the MattsonJack Group, a global healthcare consultancy within WPP. She led many consulting projects for multinational pharmaceutical companies. These included Pfizer, GSK, Novartis, and Amgen, as well as mid-sized biotech companies such as Biogen Idec and Dendreon. She has expertise in product testing, pricing/reimbursement, competitive intelligence, due diligence, in/out licensing, and product pipeline assessment. Dr. Zhao is an established expert on the Asian healthcare market. She has published many review articles about China’s healthcare market in leading healthcare magazines such as Scrip and MedTech Insight. She is also a frequent speaker at national and international conferences. As a co-founder and CEO of Draco Healthcare Consulting, LLC, she is committed to providing top-quality services for pharmaceutical and biotech companies who have interest in the healthcare market of the Greater China region. Dr. Zhao holds a Ph.D. of Molecular Biology from Purdue University, Indiana, USA, and an MBA in Marketing from the California State University, Hayward.

Meixuan Yan

Managing Director – ILG China

Meixuan has over 20 years experience in cross-border transactions, primarily in the medical field. She has owned several businesses. She has successfully sourced and retailed Chinese medicinal products while operating medical clinics both in the US and China. She has excellent contacts within the Ministry of Health in Beijing and with a variety of large medical distributors in China. Her degree is from Chinese Traditional Medical University, Liaoning. She is currently a board member of EMT, a medical high technology company located in Shanghai.

Robert Burmeister, Ph.D.

Dr. Burmeister has more than 25 years experience in photonics, optics, fiber optic components and other high technologies. He currently assists Fortune 500 and start-up companies in technology commercialization. Prior to this, he was the founding Director of the US-Japan Technology Management Center at Stanford University which was established as a center of excellence in technology management research and education related to Japan. He was also a consulting Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford with special interest in advanced optoelectronics. He spent 20+ years at the Hewlett-Packard Company in Palo Alto, California, where he held a number of technical and management positions of increasing responsibility including Director of the Materials Research Laboratory at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories. He has been responsible for advanced R&D of a broad range of electronic and optoelectronic materials and devices, including LEDs, semiconductor lasers, fiber optic devices, and their subsequent commercialization. Dr. Burmeister received his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science from Stanford University.

Soody Tronson

Patent Lawyer

Soody has been involved in technology and law for more than 20 years. She has represented technology, life science, medical device, and pharmaceutical companies in a wide range of intellectual property matters. Soody’s clients have included individuals, newly formed and venture-backed startups, and publicly traded multinational corporations. Soody practiced law as IP counsel of Heller Ehrman, Townsend and Townsend, and the Hewlet-Packard Company. Soody holds a J.D. and M.S.; and is licensed to practice law before the Courts in the State of California and by the U.S. Patent and Trademark office.

Christine Faraci, MBA

Business Development - High Technology

Ms. Faraci has over 12 years experience working in the information technology industry and offers combined experience in telecommunications, business applications, and enterprise networking. As Regional Vice President for the Yankee Group, Ms. Faraci was responsible for the business development for telecommunications and enterprise networking market research and consulting engagements. Previously, she spent six years implementing financial services applications including risk management tools and trading systems. Ms. Faraci’s educational background includes an MBA in MIS from Loyola University in Chicago, and a B.S. in Public Communications from Syracuse University.

Nola Masterson

Managing Director Science Futures, Inc.

Ms. Masterson has 30+ years of experience in life sciences and venture capital investment. She serves as the Managing Director for Science Futures Inc., a life sciences venture capital firm with three fully invested funds. In addition, she opened the San Francisco office of Techno Venture Management (TVM), one of the first venture capital firms in Germany, and one of the largest in Europe. Ms. Masterson was a founding president of Sequenom, Inc., where she laid the groundwork for subsequent financings and the company’s IPO. Other companies with which she has been associated include IDEC Pharmaceuticals, NanoStream, Pain Therapeutics, MediGene, a life sciences Hedge fund, and many other early stage companies. Ms. Masterson is a board member of Zonagen, Inc., a publicly traded biotech company, and of Omicia, an early-stage pharmacogenomics company. She earned a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from Marymount College, a M.Sc. in Biological Sciences from George Washington University. She has completed doctoral course work in Molecular Biology at the University of Florida.

Masato (Marty) Matsuo, Ph.D.

President and CEO of USJP Technology, Inc.

Dr. Matsuo has more than 30 years of business development experience for a Japanese chemical company, where he served as Chief Technology Officer. His focal area has been the applications of polymers, medical devices (especially cardio-vascular devices), electronic chemicals used in semiconductor packaging and photo-resists, polymer batteries, silicon wafer slicing technologies, and bio-technology (including DNA vaccines). He has completed more than 20 licensing and joint research agreements, which have lead to product sales of $400 million. Dr. Matsuo is currently the President and CEO of USJP Technology, Inc., a consulting company with the focus of bridging technologies between the US and Japan. He is also active in education as the Professor and Director of Kyushu University, California Office, and in a volunteer work, which includes service as a member of the Board of Trustees of Hakone Foundation, and the Japanese University Network in the Bay Area. Dr. Matsuo received B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in polymer science from Kyushu University in Japan, where he is currently a professor.

Maurice F. McCarthy, Jr., M.D.

Consultant

Dr. McCarthy has 20 + years experience as a physician specializing in Rheumatology. His research has encompassed DMARD Therapy in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis and post-operative spinal fluid infection after neurosurgical shunting procedure. Dr. McCarthy currently serves as active staff for the Winter Haven Hospital in the Gessler Clinic, P.A. His certifications include American Board of Internal Medicine – Diplomat, Certified Clinical Densitometrist, and International Society for Clinical Densitometry and American College of Rheumatology. Dr. McCarthy completed his residencies and internship at the University of Miami and his doctorate at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. His undergraduate work was completed at Emory University.

Jack W. Moorman

Mr. Moorman has over 30 years of experience in medical device/instrumentation, nanotechnology and semiconductor -related businesses. He can also boast more than 10 years in medical devices and biotech instrumentation. He has been the founder of seven companies and the president of a publicly traded semiconductor equipment company, Nanometrics, Inc. Mr. Moorman has led multiple financing rounds. Mr. Moorman received a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Illinois, and a Masters in Management from Stanford Business School.

Richard Wilmuth, Ph.D.

Dr. Wilmuth has been developing software and running his own successful business for over 30 years. Dr. Wilmuth performs management consulting for businesses and government in the areas of financial analysis, budgeting, human resources, information management, application systems, quantitative analysis and decision-making support. He has developed an extensive corporate financial planning and modeling tool for Silicon Valley companies and performs object-oriented programming in C++, Microsoft SQL Server Database, and Windows application development tools. Dr. Wilmuth holds special knowledge in management science in linear/non-linear programming, data analysis, decision analysis, stochastic systems, solution modeling, and related software systems research and development. He earned his Ph.D. in Operations Research from Stanford University, and holds a B.S. and an M.S. in EECS from the University of California at Berkeley.

Bradford W. Baer, Ph.D.

Principal BioDirections

Dr. Baer has over 22 years of experience in the biotech industry. His expertise lies in therapeutic development, pre-clinical projects, technology acquisition, raising capital funds and product development. He has raised over $16M in venture money, initiated significant worldwide trials, and been Owner/Senior Manager/CEO of companies like Cetus Corp., Angiogenix, Darwin Molecular, and Fluidigm. Dr. Baer received his B.A. with highest honors in Biology and Chemistry from the University of California at Santa Cruz, his Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from Harvard University, and was a postdoctoral fellow and staff scientist at the Medical Research Council in Cambridge, England.

John Didsbury, Ph.D

Dr. Didsbury has over 18 years of executive management experience within pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. He took three drug discovery programs to selection of clinical candidate molecules within 14 months by raising $10 Million. Dr. Didsbury has been associated the following companies: Nuada Pharmaceuticals (CEO), GlaxoSmithKline, Macronex, Genentech and Duke University Medical Center. He earned his B.A. in Biology/Chemistry at University of Connecticut in 1977, and his Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology at University of Vermont Medical College in 1982.

Eric Evitt, Ph.D.

Dr. Evitt has more than 20 years of catalysis, chemical and chemical process R&D and R&D management experience. His expertise includes intellectual property assessment, process development and inter-company joint R&D. Dr. Evitt has spent more than 14 years at Catalytica in various positions, including Senior Management. Dr. Evitt completed his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Rochester, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology. He then was a Post-doctoral Fellow at Stanford University.

Jan Lerou, Ph.D.

Dr. Lerou has nearly 30 years of experience in leading catalysis, process engineering, and experimental programs in the chemical and informatics industries. He was CTO of NovoDynamics, a molecular discovery informatics company, and held many senior management positions at DuPont. He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Catholic University Leuven, and a Ph.D. from the University of Gent, both of which are in Belgium.
